Capability-Based Sprint Planning:

Capability-Based Sprint Planning:

In capability-based Sprint Planning, the teams do not talk about the time they have. Instead, they run experiments.

Based on the historical data of the team's capability, the team plans for the Sprint, keeping business needs in mind. Capability means how much valuable work the team can deliver in a fixed amount of time - the Sprint.

For example: If the team is working for the very first time, the team does not have any historical data of their capability. The team can run the first Sprint as an experiment.

Use the outcome of the Sprint as a pointer for planning the upcoming sprint. One way to do is by using

  • How many Product Backlog items "done" in a sprint?
  • How many story points delivered in the sprint towards the vision?

If the team uses different ways of estimating other than story points, then that will be used for capability planning.
